September 29, 2025

Dear Members of the Baca Grande Community,

As Executive Director, and as someone who lives and works here, I want to begin by saying that serving this community is both an honor and a blessing. We value each and every member, and it is my commitment to ensure that your voices are heard and respected.

In preparation for this election we partnered with a third-party company to handle the mailing of our ballots, with the expectation that this would be the most efficient and reliable option for our members. Unfortunately, due to circumstances beyond our control, the company did not perform as promised. We were deeply disheartened to learn that the ballots had not been mailed, but we were assured they will go out on September 30. Please know that we take this matter very seriously.

Now, more than ever, I am asking for us to come together as a community to ensure that every vote is counted. Please help us relay this message to as many of your Baca neighbors as possible so that, together as neighbors, we can ensure no one is left out of this important process.

  • For the Baca Property Owners that we have email addresses on file, you have received an email with a link to vote electronically from ElectionBuddy.com so (please check your spam to make sure it was not missed).

  • Those of you who did not receive an email, please call our office at 719-256-4171, provide us with your email, and we will send you your voter code to vote electronically. Our website at bacagrande.org will also have a vote button available that will require your code.

  • Those without internet access, we have a private voter station available at the POA office and paper ballots available.

If you have questions or need assistance, please do not hesitate to reach out. You can call us at 719- 256-4171 or stop by the POA office on T Road. For additional updates, keep an eye out for our electronic communications sent by email, or follow us on Facebook at facebook.com/bacagrandepoa.

Please remember that voting ends on October 10th at 7:00 p.m. so time is of the essence. Join us at the POA Hall earlier that evening for a community potluck at 5:30 p.m., followed by our Annual General Meeting at 7:00 p.m. The results of the election will be announced at the meeting.

It is my sincere hope that, together, every eligible voter has the opportunity to participate and every vote is counted.

With gratitude and respect
Donna Rumph
Executive Director

Candidate Statements

I love the Baca Grande and Crestone and I feel deeply grateful to live in such a beautiful, diverse, and vibrant community. For the past 3½ years, I’ve had the privilege to serve as a Director on the Baca Grande Association Board. In that time, we’ve made meaningful strides together - strengthening our financial foundation, improving communication and transparency, and building a stronger, more harmonious community.

With your support, I hope to continue this work for another three-year term. My primary focus remains fostering unity, trust and harmony among all members and between all organizations. I believe in listening respectfully, solving problems collaboratively, and creating a culture of inclusion where every voice is valued.

If re-elected, I will continue to work to:

  • Improve member services: Streamline communication, simplify access to information, and ensure the Association is member-focused and responsive.

  • Upgrade infrastructure and amenities: Maintain and invest in our roads, trails, parks, and gathering spaces.

  • Promote community connection: Support volunteer opportunities, neighborhood projects, and cultural events that build resilience and a shared sense of belonging.

  • Expand Firewise education: Provide resources and outreach to help residents, builders, and visitors protect our homes and land.

  • Preserve our natural environment: Protect open space, maintain greenbelts and trails, and seek opportunities to expand conservation easements.

  • Ensure transparent governance: Make budgets. discussions and decisions easier to understand and access.

  • Practice responsible financial stewardship: Build our reserves and plan proactively for long-term needs.

Professionally, I bring decades of leadership in construction, real estate, aviation, and technology. In my previous community, I served as Vice President of the Malibou Lake HOA, and locally I have served as President of the Baca Grande Association and as a Director of ScSEED, Saguache County’s economic and environmental development nonprofit.

I see the Baca Grande as a living model of rural resilience—rich with creativity, care for the land, and the potential to sustainably thrive across generations. As more people call this place home, it’s essential that we plan wisely and manage with compassion and integrity.

Please feel free to reach out with your questions or ideas—I welcome the conversation. Thank you for the opportunity to serve. With your support, I look forward to continuing the journey together.

Wishing you well!

Matt Evers

My name is Matt Evers, and I am honored to run for the Crestone POA Board of Directors.

For over a decade I have worked as an independent contractor, and for the past three years I have run my own business here in Crestone. Through this work I’ve gained a deep understanding of construction and the challenges faced by owner-builders. One of my priorities is to ensure Crestone remains accessible to those who want to build their own homes, while preserving our long tradition of alternative and sustainable building practices.

Integrity and humility guide my decisions, and I believe in policies that encourage the Environmental and Architectural Committee (EAC) to be knowledgeable, fair, and respectful toward all building methods—including innovative and sustainable approaches.

As a community member and business owner, I know that our POA’s core responsibilities must come first. I will advocate for better roads and stronger support for our Maintenance Department, as well as continued investment in our Emergency Services. My focus is on improving what we already do well, rather than taking on new projects we don’t have the infrastructure or funds to sustain.

Crestone is more than just where I live—it’s my community. I am deeply invested in protecting its character and ensuring the POA serves all members with fairness, practicality, and respect.

I would be grateful for your vote and the opportunity to serve our community.

Sincerely,
Matt Evers
